Fifteen years ago, Fatima “Tima” Carslick first walked through the doors of LGBT Life Center as a volunteer—now she’s back as our new Deputy Director of Housing. With a heart for community, a sharp eye for grants, and a passion for helping others find stability, Tima brings both professional experience and deep-rooted dedication to the work we do. Whether she’s connecting folks to housing or diving into her new hobby of plant parenting, she’s here to make a lasting impact—and we couldn’t be more excited to have her on the team.
Name/Nickname: Fatima Carslick (Tima)
Pronouns: She/Her
Job title: Deputy Director of Housing
Where’d you come from and what’d you do there? I am coming to the Life Center from Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia, Norfolk, VA. In that role, I had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in writing and executing program grants, which was essential during the development stage of the Homeless Older Adults Program.
I’m here to help you with… gaining access to community resources, housing opportunities, and other resources to increase housing and food stability.
How did you become interested in working at the LGBT Life Center? Having volunteered at the front desk nearly 15 years ago and worked closely with the agency over the years, I have always admired the consistent voice the LGBT Life Center maintains for those who may need help getting their voices heard.
What’s an interesting thing about you that most people don’t know? My first name almost ended up being Keshan, Alnisa, Hasana, or Malika – but Fatima won the name lottery with three circles on the back of the discharge papers!
What excites you most about being at the LGBT Life Center? Having the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community. Every day, I get to collaborate with passionate staff and engage in discussions that aim to improve people’s lives. Having even a small part in witnessing someone transition from homelessness into permanent housing is incredibly heartwarming.
