February 19, 2025 by Corey Mohr Leave a Comment

Meet Mariah, one of the newest faces at LGBT Life Center! After graduating from Christopher Newport University with a degree in Sociology & Criminology, she transitioned from intern to full-time Program Support Specialist, helping clients navigate housing support services. Passionate about making a difference and working alongside a team dedicated to community impact, Mariah is excited to bring her skills and enthusiasm to the Center. Get to know more about her journey, her favorite things, and why she’s excited to be here!

Name/Nickname: Mariah
Pronouns: she/her
Job title: Program Support Specialist

Where’d you come from and what’d you do there? I just graduated from CNU (Christopher Newport University) where I studied Sociology & Criminology. This is my first “big girl” job!

I’m here to help you with…housing support!

How did you become interested in working at the LGBT Life Center? I heard about it through Julie (Snell) because she was a professor for my “Gender, Sexuality & Crime” class at CNU. Through her, I interned at the LGBT Life Center during the Fall, and then started working here full-time after I graduated in December.

What’s an interesting thing about you that most people don’t know? I have visited the equator!

What excites you most about being at the LGBT Life Center? Getting to interact with clients and working with people who also want to make a difference within our community

Rapid Fire…what is your favorite…

Animal: Koala
Color: Pink
Song/Music: I’ve been loving Sade & Jungle a lot lately!
TV Show/Movie: New Girl/Divergent
Hobby: I’m currently learning how to crochet (not going too well though)
