Getting More Active in Our Community with Our New Engagement Coordinator

Callum Foley Community Engagement Coordinator

Callum Foley

Name & Nickname: Callum… Sometimes Cal

Pronouns: He/him

Job Title at LGBT Life Center: Community Engagement Coordinator

Where’d you come from and what’d you do there? I came from the Phil Hernandez and Lynwood Lewis campaign where I was working as a field organizer up until Election Day. Basically, I was the one in charge of calling and knocking on everyone’s doors in order to get them out to vote and in to volunteer. I just graduated from undergrad in May so I’m excited to open up a new chapter of my life.

I’m here to help you with: I’m here to engage with our local community by going out to events and representing the center in order to expand our reach and hopefully bring even more people in. I’ll also be the person to talk to if someone is interested in volunteering.

How did you become interested in this job/type of work? I’ve known about the center for the past few years while I was in college and I was always so impressed with everything they do for the community and I wanted to be involved. Once I heard about this position I realized this was something that my past experience might actually come in handy for so I was eager to see what I could bring to the team and further, what I could bring to the community that I love.

What’s an interesting thing about you that most people don’t know? I’m lowkey a foodie for the area. I’ve been slacking off the past few months but usually I’m always out trying new restaurants or spots I am just hearing about. Odds are that if you ask me about a restaurant in the area I will have an opinion. Odds are particularly high if the restaurant is in Norfolk!

What excites you about joining the LGBT Life Center Team?  I’m excited to be a small part of an organization that is directly impacting the communities that I care about the most- one that I myself am a part of. I did some work with the LGBT community in college and I have been itching to continue that work since then and on a larger scale so I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be here.
