
With a deep commitment to community advocacy and a wealth of financial expertise, Luis “Lui” Estrada is stepping up as the newest member of the LGBT Life Center’s Board of Directors. As the Director of Finance for Community Hospitals at Riverside Health, Lui brings decades of experience in financial management and organizational leadership. Having previously worked with the Center in 2011, Lui felt called to return in a meaningful way, recognizing the urgent need for strong financial stewardship and unwavering support for LGBTQ+ health and wellness. His passion for representation, equity, and strengthening community resources makes him a vital addition to the board during this critical time.

What are some of your skills, abilities, talents?: Financial Reporting, Accounting, and Finance process improvement. Financial Systems Implementations, Organizational Management, Project Management.
How did you become interested in this position?: I worked for the organization back in 2011. I have wanted to get re-engaged for a little while, but I felt like current events really prompted me to get involved again to stand with my community.
What makes our organization’s mission powerful to you?: I think the organization is one of few that provides essential services to our community. I think that the LGBTQ+ community has been historically underrepresented in health and wellness outcomes, and we face a number of challenges unique to our community. Focusing on the unique needs of our communities is critical to transforming our own lives and the lives of our friends and families. I also believe that representation is powerful, and the LGBT Life Center has been supporting and representing us for decades.a
What is an interesting thing about you that most people don’t know?: I have a black belt in taekwondo but am a bit of a softie, so you’ll probably still win in a fight.
What would you like to say about joining the LGBT Life Center Board of Directors?: I think this is a really important time in our history when we are seeing the pendulum swing in the other direction in terms of progressive change that has benefitted our community. I didn’t feel like I had a choice in supporting the organization in a volunteer capacity, and I am grateful to have maintained a relationship with the LGBT Life Center and to have acquired the skills and development to be able to support it as a board member. I have seen some of the new challenges we face in terms of funding and public perception and knew I had to jump in feet first. I think a lot of people in our community feel the same way, and I hope that they, too, can find relief in finding new ways to support each other.
