Norfolk, VA Ranks in Top 10 Cities Nationally for STIs Rates

February 20, 2024 by Corey Mohr Leave a Comment

In light of recent statistics positioning Norfolk, Virginia, among the top 10 cities nationwide for STD/STI rates, LGBT Life Center (The Center) is stepping up its efforts to combat this public health challenge. With a longstanding commitment to the health and well-being of the local community, The Center is emphasizing the importance and availability of its free STI testing services.

Free testing appointments can be quickly booked online at lgbtlifecenter.org/appointment.

Free, Confidential STI Testing for a Healthier Hampton Roads

LGBT Life Center’s free STI testing services are designed to be accessible and confidential, ensuring that every individual feels safe and supported throughout the process. “Our mission goes beyond testing; we aim to educate and empower our community members to take control of their health with the knowledge and resources we provide,” said O’mar White, Prevention Services Manager at LGBT Life Center.

Addressing the Challenge Together

Untreated STIs can lead to severe health problems, including infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, birth complications, and other health conditions. Because STIs can be easily transmitted from person to person through sexual contact, they can be difficult to control, especially if they go undetected due to a lack of symptoms, and lack of routine STI screenings. STIs also increase the risk of contracting other viruses, like HIV.

“We believe in a Norfolk that supports the health and happiness of all its residents. Together, we can address this challenge head-on, reducing the stigma associated with STI testing and encouraging everyone to take proactive steps towards wellness,” added Kristin St. Louis, Director of Client Services.

As an organization deeply rooted in values of inclusivity, education, and empowerment, LGBT Life Center aims to provide a comprehensive approach to sexual health and wellness. Recognizing the critical nature of accessible testing options and that STIs do not discriminate, the Center remains a free, non-judgmental, and private testing facility for everyone in the community, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, and identity. All are welcome.
