Welcome Tony and Charles!
Tony Crisp
Name & a nickname you go by (if you have one): Anthony Crisp. I prefer, and most people know me as Tony
Current Job Title/Employer: Director of Addiction and Recovery Treatment Services (ARTS) at the Hampton Newport News CSB
Past Experience: Practice Manager, EVMS Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (2 years); Quality Manager, Hampton Roads Community Health Center (2 years); Director of Clinical Services, Norfolk CSB (22 years)
What are some of your skills, abilities, talents?: Skilled manager and leader
How did you become interested in this position?: Many friends of mine died of AIDS or are living with HIV. Also working in the field of addiction, I have encountered HIV/AIDS with the people we serve
What makes our organization’s mission powerful to you?: It’s taking a broad and comprehensive approach to impacting HIV & AIDS; but also offering needed community health (both physical and behavioral) services for the LGBT community.
What is an interesting thing about you that most people don’t know?: For the most part, I am a very quiet individual, keep to myself. I have been with my husband for 44 years and we are both compassionate Christians and work diligently to let people know that Christ’s love is for all; not just the “frozen Mike Pence few.”
What would you like to say about joining the LGBT Life Center Board of Directors?: I want to do my part in making the LGBT Life Center be a vibrant organization for the LGBT community.
Charles Kirtland
Name: Charles Kirtland
Employer: Gershwin’s
How did you become interested in this position?: I was approached by a few friends that said I would be a good fit for the board. My year as VA Cub was coming to a close and I saw this as an opportunity to continue my mission to educate the masses on HIV stigma and encourage more people to practice safer sex practices.
What makes our organization’s mission powerful to you?: The LGBT Life Center and I have some core values in common, I value the Life Center’s mission to “empower the LGBTQ communities and all people affected by HIV through improving health and wellness, strengthening families and communities, and providing transformative education and advocacy.” I am a proud HIV+ undetectable gay male, the Life Center was there for me when I needed them and I plan on being there for them when they need me.
What is an interesting thing about you that most people don’t know?: My favorite genre of music is classical piano, and I have a deep love for history.
What would you like to say about joining the LGBT Life Center Board of Directors?: I’m honored and excited to be a part of the great work the Life Center does in the community. I look forward to being more involved in big changes that will have a direct, positive impact to those in need.
