We’re thrilled to welcome back a familiar face — Ricky Stith (he/him) — who rejoins LGBT Life Center as a Field Interviewer with the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS). After eight years of dedicated service at the Center and a well-earned retirement in December 2024, Ricky is back in action, bringing his wisdom and warmth to a new role focused on collecting vital data that shapes HIV care and prevention across the country. Whether you know him from his previous work or you’re meeting him for the first time, we’re lucky to have Ricky (and maybe even a butter roll or two!) back in the mix.
Name/Nickname: Ricky Stith
Pronouns: He/him
Job title: Field Interviewer with the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS)
Ricky, you worked at LGBT Life Center for many years – how many, why’d you leave, and what brought you back in this new capacity? I worked professionally with the LGBT Life Center for eight years before retiring in December 2024. I must admit, retirement has been fabulous. Still, I recently accepted a temporary position as a Field Interviewer with the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS), where I conduct local interviews to help monitor HIV trends across the United States. This is my second year working with the team led by Greg Fordham.
I’m here to help you with…participating in the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance, which helps us understand people’s behavior and potential needs. The information we gather is used to inform health care decisions at the federal, state, and local levels.
What’s an interesting thing about you that most people don’t know? I’m excited to be launching my home bakery business, specializing in restaurant-style butter rolls, pound cakes, and cupcakes.
Rapid Fire…what is your favorite…
• Animal: I love humpback whales. Whale watching is on my bucket list.
• Color: These days, my favorite color is green
• Song/Music: One of my all-time favorite songs is “La Costa” by Natalie Cole.
• TV Show/Movie: For those who enjoy a good detective series, I recommend The Residence on Netflix, and the movie Sinners is also worth a watch.
• Hobby: In my free time, I enjoy baking, cooking, fishing, thrifting, and tending to both indoor and outdoor plants.
