What is Third Party Fundraising?

Thank you for your interest in hosting a fundraising activity for the LGBT Life Center. Events such as yours are important in our efforts to raise funds and awareness of our mission to continue to support the queer community where they need it most. Our goal is to continue providing our life changing services to everyone in our community.  

 

 

How Third Party Fundraisers Work

The LGBT Life Center will: 

  • Post your event on our online calendar and share it on our social media pages (if requested) 
  • Advertise your event in our monthly newsletter 
  • Provide informational materials (agency overview, program specific) 
  • Provide and approve use of our “in support of” logo on materials related to your fundraiser 
  • Issue charitable tax receipts where applicable
  • Send a representative to speak at your event  
  • Provide some volunteers 
  • Provide free HIV or STD testing in our mobile testing unit 
  • Provide a table with giveaways and a LGBT Life Center Representative

The LGBT Life Center cannot:

  • Share our mailing list 
  • Provide volunteers to staff your event 
  • Pay for any supplies, mailings, costs associated with your event 
  • Guarantee attendance at your event

Each year, our agency is able to expand and add more programs as a result of your contributions and our outreach efforts. Donations from the community are greatly appreciated and significantly assist our mission of serving and enriching the lives of the LGBTQ and HIV community in the Hampton Roads area.

Third Party Fundraiser Interest Form


Typically, third party events do their own PR. You may use the LGBT Life Center name and logo, our office must first approve all publications, including press releases. It is legally important that the LGBT Life Center name and logo be used properly and spelled correctly on all promotional materials. Please note that the correct name of the organization is LGBT Life Center. Please use the name in its entirety.

LGBT Life Center Third Party Fundraising Guidelines

Special events and fundraising efforts conducted to benefit LGBT Life Center should be run by organizations or individuals that are financially responsible, have a well-established reputation, and are motivated to help in LGBT Life Center’s mission to promote the dignity and wellness of adults, families, and children impacted by HIV/AIDS through comprehensive support and educational services so that they may live healthy and rewarding lives.

LGBT Life Center will not associate with businesses or individuals known to conduct themselves in a manner not compatible with our mission.

LGBT Life Center will not incur any third party expenses, or provide funds.

A donation solicited on behalf of LGBT Life Center, either item or cash, is tax deductible only when it is made directly and entirely to LGBT Life Center.

Fundraisers must state the terms of the donation LGBT Life Center can expect from the event (ex: 50% of the profits, one time donation of $1,000 from all proceeds, etc.). This information must be made clear in event/campaign promotions. Organizers must also state the date LGBT Life Center will receive the donation.

LGBT Life Center must approve any promotion of the event mentioning or including LGBT Life Center's name or logo prior to printing or releasing.
