Local STD Testing

HIV

Rapid HIV tests provide results in 20 minutes. Each test requires a drop of blood collected from a small finger prick. When a test is positive, we perform an additional rapid test to confirm the result. All individuals receive counseling before and after the test to ensure they understand the meaning of the results and so they can discuss any risk factors, concerns, and medical care options.

Hepatitis C

(Commonly called Hep C or HCV)

HCV is an infection that passes from person-to-person through contact with HCV positive blood. You should get tested for Hep C if you:

  • Are a current or former drug user who used needles or shared needles to inject, even if you only did this one time or did it many years ago.
  • Have a sex partner who has chronic Hepatitis C or have had many sex partners.

Rapid HCV testing produces results within 20 minutes. Similar to a rapid HIV test, a single drop of blood is required. A positive result must be confirmed by additional laboratory tests.

Syphilis

Syphilis is on the rise in Virginia and around the nation. Rapid syphilis testing requires a finger stick and test results are available in 10 minutes.

Please note: If you’ve ever been diagnosed with syphilis in the past, the rapid syphilis test CANNOT be used because it is not able to distinguish between a new or old infection.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a common bacterial infection that you can get from sexual contact.

Many who have chlamydia don’t develop symptoms, but they can still infect others through sexual contact. Symptoms may include genital pain and discharge from the vagina or penis.

Results from this test typically take 7-10 business days.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a common bacterial infection that you can get from sexual contact.

It typically develops in the urethra (where you pee), rectum (anus) or throat.

Symptoms include painful urination and abnormal discharge from the penis or vagina. Men may experience testicular pain and women may experience pain in the lower belly. In some cases, gonorrhea has no symptoms.

Results from this test typically take 7-10 business days.
