Meet Jon Banwarth: Four Years of Making a Difference as a Dining Out For Life Ambassador

February 16, 2024 by Corey Mohr Leave a Comment

GET TO KNOW OUR AMBASSADORS

Jon Banwarth has dedicated four years as a volunteer ambassador with Dining Out For Life, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back for another year.

Join us and become part of a team that makes a difference!

Q & A with Jon

Q: What got you interested in becoming a Dining Out For Life Ambassador?

A: I started volunteering because I wanted to give back to the LGBTQ+ community that has given so much to me.

Q: What do you like about being an Ambassador?

A: It’s such an exciting, fun night. You get to invite all the people you love to the restaurant you’re an ambassador at, and then you get to chat with them about a cause you love. It’s an easy and fun way to get involved and help raise money that directly supports people right here in our community.

Q: Tell us something you’ve learned as an Ambassador?

A: Being an Ambassador and being part of the LGBTQ+ community has taught me never to judge a book by its cover. You may feel nervous about approaching a particular table or person based on how they look and your preconceived notions of them, but then you find out their former lover or brother or mother died from HIV in the late 80s. Or their cousin is currently in care at the LGBT Life Center. Or they’re undetectable. When you are genuine, 99% of the time, people are thrilled to be talking to you and supporting a cause you care about.
