Hampton Roads is comprised of 7 different cities, each one different from the next. Some are a quick drive away on the interstate, while others involve crossing tunnels, even bridges. We realize this can make meeting people, especially members of the LGBTQ community, a bit more difficult. That’s why LGBT Life Center has created a variety of different groups centered around just that–meeting people! Whether you’re new to the area, established, or are Hampton Roads born-n-raised, we welcome you to come out, mingle and attend some of our LGBTQ-friendly groups. To make it even easier, we’ve comprised a list of our favorites.

Get Ready to Mingle

1. Men’s Gathering – Well, the name sort of speaks for itself! This group gives the opportunity for any man 18+ to come, hang out and enjoy a movie in the LGBT Center. Whether you’re a man who identifies as gay, bi or trans, it doesn’t matter. This is a safe and welcoming space to come together, talk, laugh and discover new people in your community.
2. Speed Friending – Swipe right to this awesome LGBTQ group! If you’re looking to make new friends in your community, you definitely shouldn’t miss this. Speed Friending is an opportunity for anyone LGBTQ identifying to come to the Center, hang out, and indulge in a pot luck. Simply show up ready to chill…the only things you’ll need to bring are a dessert to share and an open mind.
3. 50 Plus Fabulous – A little grey doesn’t get in the way of being fabulous! That’s why we designed a group specifically for LGBTQ seniors and allies looking to connect with like-minded individuals. We recognize that getting older can make meeting new people in the LGBTQ community a bit more difficult, but this group looks to help eliminate the hassle of finding places to meet others by fostering a fun, social evening of conversation, laughter and activity!
4. PFLAG – PFLAG is the United States’ first and largest organization uniting families and allies with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer. The mission of this group is to promote the health and well-being of LGBT persons, their families and friends through support, education and advocacy. Our Hampton Roads chapter meets monthly, but we remain devoted to speaking up for equality, rights and a healthy society each and every day. If you’re looking to meet other LGBT advocates and allies, this is definitely your group.
