Last night, we came together for a powerful community conversation—one that highlighted the concerns, fears, and hopes of our LGBTQ+ community and allies. We heard you, and we are committed to taking action. But real change doesn’t happen without collective effort.
If you’re wondering what you can do to make a difference in this political climate, here are some concrete steps you can take right now.
1. Know Your Representatives & Contact Them
The first step in advocacy is knowing who represents you. Find out who your elected officials are and reach out to them about issues that matter to you.
- Look up your federal representatives: https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member
- Find your state legislators: https://openstates.org/
- Search for local officials: https://www.vpap.org/
When reaching out, be clear, concise, and personal. Share your story and why LGBTQ+ rights, healthcare, or other key issues are important to you.
The ACLU has fantastic templates for every topic/issue we are facing right now. You can use them or edit them and make their your own.

2. Register to Vote & Check Your Voter Registration
Your vote is your voice, and local and state elections impact our daily lives just as much as national ones.
- Check your voter registration status: https://www.nass.org/can-I-vote
- Register to vote: https://www.vote.org/
Make sure your friends, family, and community members are also registered and prepared to vote in upcoming elections.
The House is reelected every 2 years, so be prepared!

3. Support LGBTQ+ Organizations & Initiatives
Organizations like LGBT Life Center provide critical services, advocacy, and community spaces. Your support helps keep these programs alive.
- Volunteer with us—Check out opportunities at https://www.lgbtlifecenter.org
- Donate—Every contribution fuels LGBTQ+ healthcare, housing, and support services.
- Attend local events—Visibility and solidarity matter. Show up, learn, and connect.
- Sign up for our pharmacy program—Our federal funding is currently at risk, but signing up for our pharmacy program can mean contributing $10,000 a year or more with the prescriptions you already receive.
4. Engage in Local Activism
Legislation that affects LGBTQ+ rights often begins at the local level. Get involved:
- Attend city council meetings and speak up.
- Support LGBTQ+ affirming candidates and policies.
- Join local advocacy groups working on issues like healthcare access, education, and anti-discrimination protections.

5. Stay Informed & Educate Others
Misinformation and lack of awareness fuel discrimination. Stay updated on key issues by following reputable LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations such as:
- Sign up for LIFE Alerts, LGBT Life Center’s advocacy news, updates, and more
(https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sl/ePtBH5w) - National LGBTQ Task Force (https://www.thetaskforce.org/)
- Lambda Legal (https://www.lambdalegal.org/)
- Human Rights Campaign (https://www.hrc.org/)
Then, share what you learn with your networks—on social media, in conversations, and through community organizing.
Your Voice Matters
Our conversation last night made one thing clear: we are stronger together. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but with consistent action, we can protect and expand the rights and dignity of our community. Take a step today—whether it’s contacting your representative, voting, or supporting LGBTQ+ initiatives. Every action counts.
Let’s keep the momentum going. 💜
