Each year on November 20, communities around the world observe Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR)—a day dedicated to honoring the trans and gender-diverse people whose lives were taken by violence. TDOR is a solemn reminder that remembrance is not the goal; safety, dignity, and equity are. It is an annual reflection point inside a much larger, ongoing movement for justice.
At LGBT Life Center, we honor this day by strengthening our commitments and expanding the systems that support trans lives right here in Hampton Roads. Trans community members deserve not only safety, but opportunity, affirmation, and the freedom to thrive.
Our Commitments to Trans Community Members
LGBT Life Center’s work is grounded in year-round investment, affirming services, and community partnership. We support trans and gender-diverse individuals through a comprehensive network of programs, including:
Affirming Care
Our partner clinic and pharmacy provide affirming primary care, gender-affirming support, sexual health services, PrEP and DoxyPEP access, and culturally competent treatment delivered by trained providers.
Triple T (Trans Teaching Trans)
A peer-led leadership initiative where trans community members support each other, share resources, and build community resilience.
LGBTQ+ Youth Programming
Youth Matter, our LGBTQ+ youth group, provides a safe, affirming space for young people to connect, grow, and build confidence.
Peer Support Groups
We offer social and support spaces designed for trans adults and youth, fostering belonging and reducing isolation through community connection.
Housing Support
Trans community members have access to affirming housing navigation, case management, and support through our inclusive, safety-focused housing programs.
Mental Health Services
Trans-affirming behavioral health specialists provide counseling, crisis support, and ongoing mental health care.
Pride Pantry & Basic Needs
Our Pride Pantry ensures access to food and essential items—support that alleviates financial strain and strengthens stability.
Advocacy & Equity
We engage in ongoing policy advocacy at local, state, and federal levels, advancing protections and expanding access to affirming care, housing, and community safety.
These commitments reflect our belief that equity is the practice and care is the outcome.

Our Work Continues
We remember the lives lost this year, and we recognize the urgent need for systems that protect trans people every day—not only on November 20. Our work continues through care delivery, housing support, mental health services, crisis response, peer-led programming, and advocacy that expands safety and opportunity.
We honor. We remember. And we continue the work—today, tomorrow, and every day after.
