Name/Nickname: Andrew
Pronouns: They/Them, He/Him
Job title: Supportive Services Program Manager
Andrew, you previously worked at LGBT Life Center – how long, why’d you leave, and what brought you back in this new capacity? I previously served as a Community Health Navigator with the agency from 02/2019 through 09/2020. Before my time at the Life Center, I was pursuing my graduate degree in International Studies and a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies. During that time, I served as a graduate assistant for the Office of Intercultural Relations (OIR), where I executed programming for underrepresented students. In Fall 2020, I was offered a position as Coordinator for LGBTQIA+ Initiatives at OIR. I saw this as an opportunity to grow professionally and creatively. So, I made the very tough decision to leave the agency. However, I took everything I learned with me and made it a point to further strengthen the relationship between the LGBT Life Center and ODU through expanding collaborative programs and events. After spending 4 years at ODU, I have spent the past 2 years in Florida, working in a similar capacity at the University of Tampa. It has been my mission since leaving graduate school to work in a capacity that serves the Queer community. Returning to the LGBT Life Center in this new role allows me to stay in alignment with that commitment.
I’m here to help you with…Specifically, in my role as Supportive Services Program Manager, I will be supporting the Program Support Specialists and IPV Coordinators in addition to transportation and the Pride Pantry.
What’s an interesting thing about you that most people don’t know? I’ve been partnered for 18 years and I have a twin who is also gay.
What excites you most about being back at the LGBT Life Center in this new role? The opportunity to continue working in a capacity where I am serving the Queer community.
